Get ready to grow in 2025 with this brand checklist

December 18, 2024

The other day, our team was reviewing pitch decks from January 2024. It hit us how much has changed – market shifts, competitor landscapes, and even how we talk about AI. What felt cutting-edge then almost feels dated now.

It started an important conversation: while everyone's debating tech trends and market predictions for 2025, are we asking the right questions? Before the AI strategies and growth forecasts, there's something more fundamental to address – is your brand actually ready for where you want to go next year?

We’ve put together three ways you can check if your brand is fit for 2025:

1. Message - market evolution check

That pitch deck sitting in your drive? It's time for a review. Markets evolve, investor priorities shift, new startups pop up every minute, and your story needs to keep pace. We're seeing too many founders stick to their 2023 narratives in a 2025 world, and it's key that your story sticks out ahead of your competition.

Here's what to do:

  • Review your top 3 competitors' current messaging (specifically their investor decks, landing pages, and social presence)
  • List your key differentiators (if they still include "AI-powered" or "blockchain-enabled" without specific value points that talk to real humans, try again)
  • Test your pitch with 5 potential customers (not existing users, not friends - fresh eyes only)
  • Align your deck metrics with 2025 market expectations (2023's growth metrics won't impress anymore)

2. Visual identity reality check

Your brand has likely evolved through various touchpoints - pitch decks, social media, sales materials. As we head into a new year, it's time to ensure everything aligns and is consistent with where you're heading.

The bare minimum visual check:

  • Standardised brand toolkits with clear brand guidelines for your growing team
  • AI-ready visual guidelines (including parameters for AI-generated content and guardrails for your team)
  • Pitch deck templates that work for different audiences (investors, enterprise clients, partners)

3. Content calendar vs. Business goals

Content without strategy is just noise, and we see a lot of it. Trust us, we've been guilty of this too. 2025 is about strategic alignment, thoughtful content and measurable impact to reach your business goals.

Do a quick audit:

  • Map your content themes to specific business objectives (fundraising, market expansion, enterprise sales)
  • Align thought leadership pieces with your sales funnel stages
  • Review engagement metrics against actual business outcomes
  • Plan content that supports your next funding round narrative
  • Position your key executives as industry experts in targeted channels

The hard reality

Remember those pitch decks we mentioned in early 2024? The startups that have grown the most since then aren't necessarily the ones with the flashiest designs or biggest budgets. They're the ones who tell a better story than their competitors.

Your brand isn't a box to check or a design exercise to complete. It's the story you tell, the position you own, and most importantly, the growth you enable. When we see startups struggle, it's rarely because their logo isn't perfect – it's because their brand isn't working as hard as they are.

What to do now

Before you head into 2025 planning, take a step back. Grab your leadership team and ask the uncomfortable questions:

  • If someone read your pitch deck from last year, would they understand where you're heading now?
  • When was the last time your brand story made you feel excited about your company's future?
  • Is your brand enabling your next big moves, or is it holding you back?
